The "Montreal Protocol", a treaty which limits the production of Chloroflourocarbon 12, commonly known as "Freon" or R-12 was signed by the United States and thirty other countries in 1987. CFC emission depletes the ozone layer, which causes increased harmful ultraviolet radiation.
In support of the international efforts to prevent destruction of the ozone layer and through voluntary participation in the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), efforts to reduce refrigerant emissions, Volkswagen of America, Inc. announces the addition of the Kent-Moore ARC 3 Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling System to the VWoA equipment program. The ACR 3 is considered minimum requirement for all Audi Dealers.
State legislation requiring refrigerant recovery and recycling has been enacted in 7 states and is pending in many others. Every dealer should be familiar with the legislative status in his own state, as effective dates for required recycling are generally January 1, 1991.
Limiting Refrigerant R-12 production has caused rapid escalation of prices, making recycling a logical choice. Purchasing recycling equipment now allows a dealer to maximize his service profit as well as to protect the environment.
The ACR 3 system exceeds all SAE/EPA standards for recycled R-12 and has been approved by Underwriter Laboratory and Canadian Standards Association. The ACR 3 features continuous loop recycling, automatic air purge and automatic shutoff as standard equipment. A liquid pump recycles the R-12 instead of a compressor, thereby reducing acid amounts passed through the compressor and extending compressor life.
The Kent-Moore ACR 3 comes complete with two 30 lb. refrigerant storage tanks, video tape and instructions. Kent-Moore Tool Corp. warrants the ARC 3 Air Conditioning Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling System to be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service for 3 years from date of purchase. For dealers without an A/C charging station Kent-Moore has made available a Smart Cart Charging Station. It enables quick and accurate weighing of refrigerant for charging the A/C system.
