Engine - Excessive Cranking Time, Stalls After Starting
9225audi01
Group: 25
Number: 92-01
Date: 01/31/92
Subject:
Vehicle Stalls After Starting and/or Excessive
Cranking Time Before Starting
Model(s):
80/90, 100 with CIS-E III M.Y. 1987-1991
Condition:
Barometric Absolute Pressure Sensor (Altitude sensor) may cause differential pressure regulator current, to decrease in open loop mode.
Barometric Absolute Pressure Sensor Functional Check:
Requirement
^ Engine at operating temperature
Switch off ignition
Install VW 1315 A/1 test harness to differential pressure regulator Connect multimeter US 1119 or equivalent to VW 1315 A/1 and set to 2OmA scale.
Start engine and let idle
1. Disconnect oxygen sensor
- If differential current stabilizes at zero, the Barometric Absolute Pressure Sensor is OK (Refer to other Technical Bulletin and/or repair fiche for additional repair and diagnosis information.)
- If differential current reading decreases to -3 to -6 mA proceed to Number 2.
2. Disconnect barometric absolute pressure sensor with engine running
- If differential current reading stabilizes at 0 mA - replace barometric absolute pressure sensor. Reconnect oxygen sensor Check for fault codes Clear fault memory
Labor Operation:
Check and/or replace barometric absolute pressure sensor
