Starting with October 1989 production, an acrylic coating has been applied to all Audi vehicles. This coating will protect against industrial fall out and acid rain during transportation.
Audi vehicles with this protective coating have a green label on the windshield. The Coating can be easily removed with a bio-degradeable solution.
CAUTION:
Before using any chemicals or cleaning compounds, carefully read all of the cautions and medical information on the container. Always follow all manufacturer's recommendations.
A container of coating remover is placed in the trunk of each vehicle. Be sure to use this product. VW or other products are not effective on the Audi coating. Additional Audi coating remover can be ordered using Part No. 176 050 101B.
Note:
We recommend that you do not remove the protective coating until the vehicle is sold, used as a demonstrator or in showroom display.
CAUTION:
Part numbers are for reference only. Always check with your Parts Department for latest information.
CAUTION:
Read all cautions and medical information on the transportation coating remover bottle prior to starting work. Safety glasses, rubber gloves, rubber apron and boots must be worn when working with the transportation coating remover.
Important:
Remove the coating only when the vehicle is as close to room temperature as possible.
All snow must be removed prior to applying remover solution.
In warmer climates it may be necessary to cool the vehicle's surface by rinsing it with water prior to applying remover solution.
Work Sequence:
^ dilute 1-part of removal solution with 8-parts water and mix thoroughly
Note:
When vehicles are coated with a thicker than normal transit coating, removal solution can be used in concentrations up to 1-part of remover to 4-parts of water
^ pre-rinse vehicle with water to remove dirt and debris
^ using a garden hand pump sprayer, apply at least two applications of removal solution
Note:
Using a garden type sprayer is best. Applying removal solution by other methods will not yield satisfactory results.
^ WAIT AT LEAST 10 MINUTES TO ALLOW THE REMOVAL SOLUTION TO PENETRATE AND SOFTEN THE TRANSPORTATION COATING.
WARNING:
DURING THE APPLICATION PERIOD OF APPROX. 10 MINUTES THE VEHICLE MUST BE KEPT MOIST (THE REMOVAL SOLUTION MUST NOT DRY ON THE PAINT).
^ RINSE THE VEHICLE WITH WATER TO REMOVE ALL SOLVENT FROM THE CAR.
^ re-apply another complete application of removal solution to entire vehicle
^ using a clean wet washing mitt or soft cloth, hand wash the vehicle
^ DO NOT allow removal solution to dry, Re-apply as needed during hand washing
^ thoroughly rinse the vehicle with clean water to remove the coating and remover solution
^ using towel or chamois, wipe the vehicle dry to prevent water spots
^ if necessary repeat removal procedure until protective coating is completely removed
^ inspect the vehicle for coating not removed. Apply a small amount of the remover solution and then wipe the area with a clean dry cloth
Note:
It after removing the coating a dull or hazy finish is left, polish the painted surface with a polishing compound such as "Crystal Shine" by Car Brite or equivalent and then hand wax using a good quality wax.
