Cleaning/Checking "VITON" Tipped Injectors (Off Vehicle)

***UPDATED BY TSB #259104.

INJECTOR CLEANING, LEAK TESTING, CHECKING OPENING PRESSURE

CAUTION: Use only Shell mineral spirit 135 or equivalent when testing or cleaning injectors using a pressure tester.

WARNING: Shell mineral spirit 135 is flammable. Do not smoke or create any sparks in the area where injectors are being tested. The fine mist of solvent can ignite very easily

Fuel Injector Pressure Tester:

1. Use Audi special tool #US 8034 for cleaning injectors and testing injector opening pressure. Remove the injector from its fuel line. Inspect the injector's inlet for signs of rust. If any rust is found, the injector should be replaced.
2. Install the injector on the tester and tighten connection. Pump several times to purge the air from the line. When spraying normally, the injector will make a high-pitched squeal. Pump slowly and read the injector opening pressure on the gauge as the injector starts to spray.

^ Opening pressure should be 63 - 68 psi (4.3 - 4.6 bar).

3. Any injector which leaks, opens at a lower than specified pressure, or has an uneven spray pattern should be cleaned. Replace defective injectors if cleaning does not restore normal injector operation.

4. To clean injector, pump tester filled with Shell mineral spirits #135 several times. If injector is actually being cleaned, a noticeable change in injector sound and/or spray pattern will occur. Retest after cleaning.

NOTE: Viton injector opening pressure will vary depending on how long injector has been out of contact with gasoline. For more specific information on testing/cleaning of viton tipped injectors, see audi TSB #259104.
