Ambient Temperature Sensor / Switch HVAC: Description and Operation
Outside Temp Sensor:
The outside temperature sensors switch the A/C compressor clutch OFF when temperature drops below a specified temperature. Two identical sensors are used to measure outside ambient temperature.
One sensor is located in front of the condenser on front apron.
Heater/Evaporator Assembly:
The remaining outside temperature sensor is located on the evaporator in the plenum chamber.
The climate control head measures both sensors and uses the lowest value to calculate outside ambient temperature. This information is then used to make small adjustments to interior temperature regulation, air distribution and blower speed.
The values received from these sensors are also used for the outside temperature display (on the A/C control head) and for compressor clutch operation. The Outside temperature sensors will prevent A/C compressor clutch from operating when outside ambient temperature falls below 33° to 38°F (1° TO 3°C).
