Fuel Injector: Service and Repair
WARNING: FIRE HAZARD! Disconnect battery ground strap when working on the fuel system. Do not smoke or create any sparks where odor of fuel vapor is present.RELIEVE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE
Fuel Supply Line Connection To Fuel Rail:
1. Loosen fuel supply line fitting at right rear of engine compartment (arrow) to relieve any remaining pressure, then re-tighten.
REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY
Fastener Locations For Air Filter Housing:
1. Using FIG. 1
^ Remove engine compartment cross brace (upper arrows)
^ Unscrew left and right supports for intake (lower arrow)
^ Remove air ducts
2. Using FIG. 2
^ Unscrew upper Air Cleaner housing, 4 bolts on housing, 3 bolts at rear (arrows)
3. Using FIG. 3
^ Remove lower Air Cleaner housing mounting bolts (arrows)
^ Remove housing by pressing down and lifting out upward
REMOVE FUEL RAIL
Removing PCV Hoses:
1. Remove PCV hose from between valve covers by turning with pliers until retaining lug disengages (upper arrow).
2. Cut cable tie on rear of fuel rail (lower arrow). Install new cable tie in same location upon reassembly.
3. Remove upper part of support clip for engine wiring harness behind the intake pipe.
Removing Idle Air Control Valve:
4. Disconnect harness connector from throttle position potentiometer, thermo-switch, and idle air control valve.
5. Remove idle air control valve.
6. Disconnect hoses to carbon canister.
Removing Intake Air Temperature Sensor:
7. Remove intake air temperature sensor from rear of intake manifold (arrows).
Fuel Rail Removal:
8. Disconnect harness connector from mass airflow sensor.
9. Disconnect plug connections for both knock sensors.
10. Disconnect fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose.
11. Remove fuel rail bolts and pull rails with injectors upward.
REMOVE FUEL INJECTORS
1. Disconnect fuel injector harness connectors as needed
2. Remove injector retaining clips and injector from fuel rail.
3. Install in reverse order.
NOTE: Use new O-ring gaskets and lubricate them with light grease prior to installation.
