With 3 Speed Automatic Transmission

The A/C kick-down function will switch Off the A/C compressor for 12 seconds when activated. This is done by either a kick-down switch or by the automatic transmission control unit.

Some vehicles with 3-speed automatic transmissions may not have the A/C kick-down switch installed, go to wiring diagram. If not equipped, see charts for 4-speed automatic transmission vehicles.

On 90 Quattro 20V and Coupe Quattro 20V, the A/C compressor clutch can be switched OFF via the Multi-point injection control unit, J192 and the A/C compressor clutch control unit, J153. A/C compressor clutch shut-off via these two components is not recognized by the A/C control head, E87.
