Basic Setting of Engine using
Scan Tool VAG 1551

Note
When Basic Setting is selected, the MPI Engine

Control Module (ECM) establishes the following conditions:

^ Idle Air Control (IAC) is blocked
^ constant timing of 12~ is set
^ Evaporative Emission (EVAP) solenoid valve I is closed
^ A/C compressor is switched OFF
^ EGR valve switched OFF
^ no Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) correction
(fixed value: 80~C or 176~F)

Requirements

^ Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory has been read and erased, section D2-20 in Troubleshooting Guide
^ ECT 85~C (185~F) minimum
^ all electrical consumers switched OFF

- A/C switched OFF
- repeatedly press MINUS button for blower speed selection in A/C control head until all displays are erased
^ vehicles with climate control only

- transmission selector lever in P or N
- disconnect hoses from valve covers and close off both hose ends with suitable plugs

V6 Crankcase Vent Hose:





- to remove hoses push oval outer ring together at location shown (arrows)
- to close off hoses use plastic plugs as shown, normally used to close connections for new parts

- connect VAG 1551 Scan Tool and perform all steps up to entry of address word 01
- start engine and let idle

The values which will appear in channels 1 through 10 are displayed in decimals.

Refer to "DESCRIPTION..." column to convert these values to physical values whenever this becomes necessary.
