Exhaust - Rasping Noise

Group: 26

Number: 91-06

Date: 10/25/91

Subject:
Rasping noise From Exhaust

Model(s):
All 100
M.Y. 1992

Condition:

^ When the exhaust system is cold and the RPM is increased, a rasping noise can be heard at the end of the tailpipe. There is no rasping noise when the engine and exhaust system is at operating temperature.

Cause:

^ The exhaust system is designed to extract water from the exhaust when the system is cold to reduce corrosion. This design feature may cause a slight change in noise level during engine/exhaust system warm up.

Service:

^ Inspect exhaust system for leaks, i.e. round clamps and fittings.

If no leaks are found do not replace components or attempt to repair.
