Condition

1. Customer complains that blinking red anti-theft LED in Gamma radio stays blinking and does not go out when the ignition is switched on (with radio off) in V8 models up to

VIN: 4C NN002255.

OR

2. Customer complains that blinking red anti-theft LED in Gamma radio stays blinking and does not go out when the ignition is switched on (with radio off) in 100/200 models up to 1992 m.y. This condition only occurs in vehicles where the original equipment Delta radio (standard or Bose; not equipped with blinking red anti-theft LED) was replaced with a Gamma radio (equipped with blinking red anti-theft LED.)

Production

Radio adaptor wiring harness integrated into vehicle wiring harness to allow radio anti-theft LED to switch off when ignition is switched on as of:

1. V8 models from VIN: 4C NN002255.

2. 100/200 models from 1992 m.y.

Service

CAUTION

1. Verify customer complaint. Install radio adaptor wire harness Part No. 200 971 700 on 1992 V8 models up to VIN: 4C NN002255.

OR

2. Verify customer complaint. Install radio adaptor wire harness Part No. 200 971 700 on 100/200 models up to 1992 m.y. in which the Delta radio has been replaced with a Gamma radio.

Note
Only install radio adaptor harness to resolve customer complaints regarding the function of the radio anti-theft LED. Radio performance (for example, reception) is not affected by installation of the harness.

Use the following work procedure to install radio adaptor harness. Refer to illustration 91-A108 on last page of this bulletin for overview of adaptor harness connections.

- obtain radio security code and disconnect battery ground strap

- remove driver's side lower instrument panel trim

- remove connector from ignition/starter switch

- open secondary lock and remove wire (0.5 red/green) and connector from terminal 868 of ignition/starter switch connector

- separate green connector on adaptor harness Part No.200 971 700

- insert wire and connector (from ignition switch) into open half of green connector on adaptor harness

- insert wire and connector (larger terminal, shorter lead) from adaptor harness Into open position on ignition/starter switch connector (terminal 86 s) and close secondary lock

- reconnect green connector on adaptor harness and slide foam tube over connector housing

- reconnect ignition/starter switch connector

- position adaptor harness and foam-insulated connector underneath instrument panel

- using a tie-wrap, secure foam-insulated connector to an existing wiring harness (trim excess tie-wrap)

- remove radio

- route other wire of adaptor harness (smaller terminal, longer lead) under instrument panel and through center console area to back of radio

- using a tie-wrap. secure lead to existing center console wiring harness




- open lock on radio connector III (black) and insert adaptor harness wire and connector into position 4 of radio connector III; close lock

- reconnect radio connectors and Install radio -

- install driver's side lower Instrument panel trim

- reconnect battery ground strap

- activate radio using security code

- check radio anti-theft LED function

^ anti-theft LED should switch off when ignition is switched on (radio off)
