Sunroof Without Automatic Preselect, Troubleshooting
Model(s): 100, 100S 1992 m.y.
Note:
Always refer to appropriate wiring diagram when performing electrical tests.
Test conditions:
^ battery OK
^ circuit breaker S43 located on auxiliary relay panel I, position A3, for control unit (J 139) OK
^ using Technical Bulletin 91-02, Group 60 dated Oct. 8, 1991, remove sunroof motor drive cover
^ remove interior light assembly
Tools required:
^ digital multimeter Fluke 83 (US 1119)
Note:
Take all measurements at bottom of control unit.
Control Unit (J 139) Checking:
^ disconnect control unit (J 139)
^ reconnect control unit (J 139)
Operating Switch, Checking:
^ disconnect and remove operating switch
^ reinstall and connect operating switch
Sunroof Relay, Checking:
Sunroof Motor, Checking:
CAUTION:
Use only a fused (30A) external power supply for the following test. Using an unfused power supply may cause sunroof motor and/or damage wiring.
^ remove sunroof motor
^ remove sunroof relay
Sunroof Microswitches/Wiring Harness, Replacing:
Note:
If the sunroof switch, sunroof relay and sunroof motor check OK during troubleshooting and the sunroof still does not operate properly, replace microswitches and microswitch wiring harness.
^ using Technical Bulletin 91-02, Group 60 dated Oct. 8, 1991 remove interior light assembly and sunroof motor cover drill out 4 microswitch mounting rivets with a 3.0 mm (1/8 in.) drill
^ remove wires from solder connections a and b on sunroof motor
^ remove tie wraps securing wiring harness
^ remove wiring harness
CAUTION:
Secure new harness wires to sunroof motor with tie-wrap leaving enough clearance between wires and sunroof drive gear. If wires hang loose, they will become entangled in the sunroof drive gear.
^ install new wiring harness and secure to motor with tie-wrap
^ solder harness wires to sunroof motor connection a and b
^ using 2 M2 x 20 mm screws and washers, secure mircoswitches to sunroof drive assembly
^ only 2 screws are necessary to secure microswitches
^ reinstall interior light assembly and sunroof motor cover
