Flanged Shaft, Adjusting

This operation should be carried out only if the flanged shaft, differential housing or differential bevel gears are replaced.






The purpose of the adjustment using shim -u- is to achieve the correct play -y- of 0.2-0.5 mm (0.008-0.020 in.) between the flanged shaft and the differential housing. Only this ensures smooth running of the parts and exact gearshift operations.






Determining Thickness Of Shim -U-
- Install flanged shaft with existing shims and tighten bolts.
- Measure play (arrow) between flanged shaft and housing. Play should be 0.2-0.5 mm (0.008-0.020 in.).
- If there is too little play, install an appropriately thicker shim.
- If there is too much play, install an appropriately thinner shim.
