Basic Setting Overview

Engine Basic Setting
(VAG 1551 function 04)

The engine management system uses a learning function to set certain parameters. The current engine basic setting (the current learned values) will be erased if the Engine Control Module (ECM) and/or battery are disconnected.

When "Basic Setting" function 04 is initiated, the ECM establishes the following conditions:

^ Idle Speed Control (ISC) system adjustment of ignition timing point is blocked

^ A constant ignition timing angle of 12° is set

^ The EVAP canister purge regulator valve remains in the closed position

^ A/C compressor is switched OFF

^ The EGR valve remains in the closed position

^ Dynamic Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor signal is ignored; the ECM assumes a constant value of 176°F (30°C)

^ Learning is suspended if a malfunction is stored in DTC memory that affects oxygen sensor control (but not with sporadic malfunctions).

^ Allows adjustment of base CO%
