A new central locking system pump has been installed as a running production change. The new pump, Part No. 4A0 862 257D, replaces pump Part No. 4AO 862 257B. The "D" pump is the only one available from the Parts Department.

The central locking system unlock and interior light functions operate differently depending on which pump is installed. If the "D" pump is installed in a vehicle that previously "B" pump, the customer must be informed that the unlock and interior light functions will change.

When a "B" pump is replaced with a "D" pump, the main changes to the unlock function are:

100, S4, V8
- When unlocking the doors or trunk, the key must be turned twice in rapid succession (instead of turning the key once and holding) to unlock the central locking system

- When unlocking the trunk only, the key must be turned twice in rapid succession (instead of turning the key once and holding) to unlock the central locking system

Note
The "D" version pump changes the operation of the unlock and interior light functions only. All other functions including locking and infra-red remote control operation are not changed.

1993 Audi 90

With 4A0 862 257B pump

- Turning the door key to the unlock position, regardless of how long the key is held in that position:

^ unlocks that door (mechanical unlock) and operates the central locking system pump
(unlocks all doors, trunk and fuel filler door)

^ disarms the alarm

- Briefly turning the trunk key to the unlock position:

^ unlocks the trunk only (mechanical unlock)

^ disarms the alarm

- Holding the trunk key in the unlock position for at least a half second:

^ operates the central locking system pump (unlocks all doors, trunk and fuel filler door)

^ disarms the alarm

1993 Audi 90

With 4AO 862 257D pump

- Turning the door key to the unlock position, regardless of how long the key is held in that position:

^ unlocks that door (mechanical unlock) and operates the central locking system pump (unlocks all doors, trunk and fuel filler dooo ^ disarms the alarm

^ switches on the interior lights

- Turning the trunk key to the unlock position once, regardless of how long the key is held in that position:

^ unlocks the trunk only (mechanical unlock)

^ disarms the alarm

- Turning the trunk key to the unlock position twice in rapid succession:

^ operates the central locking system pump (unlocks all doors, trunk and fuel filler door)

^ disarms the alarm

^ switches on the interior lights

Audi 100, S4, V8

With 4AO 862 257B pump (1992 m.y. only)

- Briefly turning the door or trunk key to the unlock position:

^ unlocks that door or trunk only (mechanical unlock)

^ disarms the alarm

- Holding the door or trunk key in the unlock position for at least a half second:

^ operates the central locking system pump (unlocks all doors, trunk and fuel filler door)

^ disarms the alarm

Audi 100, S4, V8

With 4AO 862 257D pump (1992 or 1993 m.y.)

- Turning the door key to the unlock position once, regardless of how long the key is held in that position:

^ unlocks that door only (mechanical unlock)

^ disarms the alarm

^ switches on the interior lights

- Turning the door key to the unlock position twice in rapid succession:

^ operates the central locking system pump (unlocks all doors, trunk and fuel filler door)

^ disarms the alarm

^ switches on the interior lights

- Turning the trunk key to the unlock position once, regardless of how long the key is held in that position:

^ unlocks the trunk only (mechanical unlock)

^ disarms the alarm

- Turning the trunk key to the unlock position twice in rapid succession:

^ operates the central locking system pump (unlocks all doors, trunk and fuel filler door)

^ disarms the alarm

^ switches on the interior lights

Interior light operation

The interior light operation is the same for the Audi 90, 100, S4 and V8.

With 4A0 862 257B pump

- When locking the car with the key from the doors or trunk, the interior lights are switched off.

- When unlocking the car with the key, the interior lights are not switched on.

With 4AO 862 257D pump

- When locking the car with the key from the doors or trunk, the interior lights are switched off.

- When unlocking the car from a door, the interior lights are switched on with one turn of the key.

- When unlocking from the trunk, the interior lights will be switched on with two turns of the key

When using the infra-red remote control, the interior lights are switched off when locking the car and switched on when unlocking.
