Note: Activating and cancelling Fault memory, as well as activator diagnosis can only be accessed with the use of a scan tool. Audi specifies only the use of the VAG 1551 Scan Tool. The procedures given in this section are specific to the VAG 1551 Scan Tool. There are other Scan Tools availible that may be able to access the diagnostic functions of this system, their use is not covered.
FUNCTIONS
Memory
The Transmission Control Module (TCM) (J 217) is capable of self-diagnosis.
If problems occur at monitored sensors or components, they are stored in memory.
Faults which occur occasionally or sporadically are stored as intermittent faults.
The TCM can store 23 different faults , Refer to DTC Charts.
Faults are stored until the fault memory is cancelled.
Output Diagnosis Test Mode (DTM)
The TCM is also equipped with output diagnosis for 8 output checks.
TCM Identification and Coding
The self-diagnosis is not limited to storing, activating, erasing and the actuator diagnosis, but also offers additional applications - control unit identification and coding.
Limp-Home Mode
Faults which affect vehicle operation cause the transmission to go into Limp-Home mode
This is indicated in the selector lever display when all display segments are lit up at the same time.
