Left Side

1. Remove main/rear muffler, then the axle shaft cover plate.
2. Disconnect parking brake cable from caliper, trapezoidal arm from crossmember and lower, then the axle shaft and lower.
3. Place an oil drain pan underneath differential.
4. Partially threading two bolts into flange, positioned opposite each other, then place suitable sized thrust pads under bolts, between flange and housing. Turn bolts alternately and evenly, to press flange off.
5. Pry out oil seal using prying tool 2078 or equivalent, then clean seat for oil seal. Do not use solvent.
6. Screw in threaded rod of seal installation tool 3066 or equivalent, then install new oil seal onto seal installation tool 3066/1 or equivalent.
7. Draw in new oil seal and tighten hex nut up to stop. Pack space between oil seal lips with multi-purpose grease.
8. Install axle flange and axle shaft using new gasket.
9. Connect trapezoidal arm, then install parking brake cable.
10. Install axle shaft cover plate, then the main/rear muffler.
11. Check differential oil level and add if necessary.
12. Torque socket head bolt to flange shaft to 89 inch lbs. plus an additional 1/4 turn, axle shaft to flange bolts to 60 ft. lbs. and trapezoidal arms to crossmember bolts to 63 ft. lbs.
