Condition

Metallic rattling noise from rear lid lock. Two-catch lock does not engage in second catch.

Production

Improved adjustment of rear lid lock Striker plate with plastic covered paw installed. As of production date 07/92

Service

- Remove striker plate.




- Install striker plate with plastic covered pawl -A-, Part No. 4A9 827 517B/518B

- Adjust striker plate to assure that lid lock engages left/right in second catch.

Up to VIN 4A NN 136 970




- Using a file, open lock slot 1.5 x 5 mm at -B-. This wider slot -C- will ease lock engagement and prevent damage to plastic pawl.

- Remove metal shavings and verify proper lock engagement.
