Transmission Installed






Remove exhaust pipe with three way catalytic converters (arrows -2-)
- Remove front crossmember (arrow -1-) and heat shield.
- Detach driveshaft at transmission.

Do not lower driveshaft more than necessary to remove flanged shaft.

- Secure driveshaft at exhaust pipe to prevent it falling down.

CAUTION! If the driveshaft is not correctly installed, the joints will be damaged.

- Place oil tray below end cover.






- Remove circlip -A-.
- Thread M8 bolt into tapped hole of cap -B- and remove cap together with magnet.

Note: Always replace 0-ring.






- Remove flanged shaft by pulling circlip apart: pry out flanged shaft with assembly lever, if necessary.






- Pry out seal with extractor lever VW 681.






- Drive in seal to 2 mm (0.08 in.) below inner edge of cover using press support 30-506b and 30-505.
- Install flanged shaft.
- Check final drive oil level, and top up if necessary.
- Attach driveshaft.
- Tightening torque: 55 Nm (41 ft lb)
