NOTE: On air bag equipped vehicles, refer to Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems), Service Precautions. Also refer to Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming.

1. Vehicles with audio coded antitheft system refer to Radio/Stereo, Service Precautions.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove lower splash shield.
3. Drain coolant, then remove intake air dust between mass air flow (MAF) sensor and intake manifold.
4. Disconnect electrical connectors from MAF sensor and idle air control (IAC) valve.
5. Remove intake air preheating hose and EVAP canister purge regulator valve on MAF sensor.
6. Disconnect and remove air cleaner housing along with MAF sensor.
7. Remove cover on intake air housing, remove both screws, then push back and lift housing.
8. Remove both positive crankcase ventilation breather hoses, then disconnect vacuum hose and remove intake air housing.
9. Remove coolant hose between radiator and top of engine, then remove left and right fuel injection line covers.
10. Disconnect electrical connectors from fuel injectors and place aside at rear with covers.
11. Remove ignition coil assembly cover, mark position of coils to wires, then disconnect connectors from coil assembly.
12. Disconnect connectors attached to bracket on engine compartment bulkhead near plenum, then remove ignition coil assembly with holder, pulling wires of coil assembly forward through intake manifold.
13. Disconnect fuel supply and return lines, then the vacuum hose on intake manifold and remove vacuum pump.
14. Disconnect throttle cable, then the hose between EVAP canister purge regulator valve and throttle body.
15. Disconnect and uncover heated oxygen sensor electrical connector at righthand side, then the connector on plenum chamber at lefthand side.
16. Disconnect electrical connectors at oil pressure sensor and oil pressure switch, electrical wires at cruise control, blue wire at intake manifold changeover valve and brown wire at EGR valve.
17. Disconnect electrical connectors at crankshaft position sensor at left rear cylinder head, then the throttle position sensor.
18. Clamp off engine coolant hose using hose clamp tool No. 3094, or equivalent, then disconnect hose at pump and holder at bottom and uncover.
19. Remove cover for serpentine belt, then disconnect pressure line of power steering pump. Place clean rags under hose to catch oil.
20. Remove coolant hose and coolant line at righthand side, then disconnect ground wire at right engine support, then remove nut from support.
21. Relieve tension on serpentine drive belt using drift tool No. 3204, or equivalent, then remove serpentine drive belt.
22. Disconnect both heater hoses on engine at lefthand rear, then remove alternator air guide.
23. Disconnect clamp on oil pan, then remove alternator with wires attached and suspend on side.
24. Remove starter motor toward rear with wires attached and suspend from engine at side.
25. Remove crossmember, then disconnect and remove catalytic converters.
26. Disconnect clamp for A/C compressor line on crossmember at front, then remove oil filter and oil cooler from under oil filter.
27. Disconnect A/C compressor and suspend at side, then remove engine/transmission flange mounting bolts at top and bottom.
28. Support transmission with engine support bridge and hook, tools No.10-222A and 3147 or their equivalents, then connect engine sling, tool No.2024A, or equivalent, at right rear and left front of engine and secure.
