Wheel Bearing, Replacement

Front wheel bearing housing, servicing

WARNING! Do not re-use any fasteners that are worn or deformed in normal use. Some fasteners are designed to be used only once, and are unreliable and may fail if used a second time. This includes, but is not limited to, nuts, bolts, washers, circlips and cotter pins. Always replace these fasteners with new parts where indicated, and any other time it is deemed necessary by inspection.






1 - Wheel bearing housing
Bearing seat should no longer be greased before pressing in bearing
Slot for ball joint must not be expanded to press in ball joint
After installing, check wheel alignment

2 - Plug
Vehicles with ABS: replaced by mounting sleeve for ABS wheel speed sensor

3 - Hex bolt 10 Nm (7 ft lb)
4 - Brake splash guard

5 - Wheel bearing
Diameter: 82 mm
Stepped inside diameter
Destroyed when pressing out
Pressing out - Fig. 2

Installation position: larger inner diameter faces hub

6 - Wheel hub

Note: Large inner diameter of the wheel bearing faces wheel hub.

- Press in wheel bearing -A- up to stop.

CAUTION! When pressing in, thrust piece VW554 must only contact the bearing inner race to avoid damage to the bearing.






- Insert separation tool in ring groove of bearing inner race and pre-load with spindle.

Note: Use commercial separating tool (e.g. Kukko 15-77).
