Condition

Compressor clutch will not engage or engages intermittently.

Note
^ Condition usually exists with high interior temperatures, from vehicle sitting in sun for extended periods.

^ A/C may function properly with cooler interior ambient temperatures.

Service

- Connect the VAG 1551 Scan Tool, and check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) according to Repair Manual, Audi 90 From 1993-Heating, Air Conditioning, page 01-1

^ (DTC) 01270 will be stored on vehicles with Automatic climate control (permanent memory).

^ (DTC) 01270 may not be stored on vehicles with manual A/C (non-permanent memory) if condition does not exist at the time of the DTC scan.

Refer to the proper electrical wiring diagram and locate the T5g wiring connector housing which is the green 5 pin connector in Auxiliary Relay Panel (arrow Fig. 1).

- Inspect the T5g/2 pin connection (vehicles with manual A/C), or the T5g/1 pin connection (vehicles with automatic A/C) for poor crimp, or poor pin to connector housing seating.

- Repair wiring connection if necessary, and ensure pin connector is firmly seated in the connector housing.

- Inspect all other wire connectors in the T5g connector housing, for proper crimp and pin seating.

- Repair connections if necessary.

- Clear the (DTC) memory and test system.

- If compressor still does not function, continue with diagnostic procedures outlined in the Repair Manual, and Technical Bulletin number 87-93-03 dated June 30, 1993.
