Airbag II System Assembly




AIRBAG II SYSTEM, ASSEMBLY

WARNING
Read all Cautions In Safety Measures Section before doing any work on the airbag system.

Note:

^ After switching the ignition on, the Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) will light up for approx. 10 seconds.

^ When the Airbag MIL goes out, the system is functional.

^ If the Airbag MIL stays on and does not go out, check airbag system using VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST); repair malfunction and/or erase Diagnostic trouble Code (DTC) memory.

^ If the Airbag MIL does not come on at all, check light bulb. If OK, check airbag system using VAG 1551 St

^ After repairs to the airbag system, check the Airbag MIL for proper function.

1 - Airbag control module

2 - Steering wheel with airbag unit
^ removing/installing, -> Repair Group 94

3 - Spiral spring connector

4 - Connector for terminal 15 (B+)
^ connected to fuse/relay panel

5 - Data Link Connector (DLC) wire, terminal K
^ connected to fuse/relay panel in left plenum

6 - Airbag voltage supply (B+) connector

WARNING
Always disconnect the battery Ground (GND) strap and airbag voltage supply (B+) connector before working on the airbag system or other related systems (for example, when removing steering wheel).

7 - Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) relay
^ located in auxiliary relay panel, position 9

8 - Ground (GND) connection on driver's side A-pillar

9 - Front passenger's airbag unit

Note:
Always place a removed passenger's airbag unit with the front pad facing upward. On vehicles without front passenger's airbag, the passenger's airbag unit is simulated by a resistor in the circuit.
