Spiral Spring - Removing/ Installing/Checking
SPIRAL SPRING, REMOVING/INSTALLING/CHECKINGRemoving
Note:
Turn front wheels and steering wheel to straight-ahead position before removing and installing the spiral spring/steering wheel.
- obtain radio security code
- disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap
- disconnect airbag voltage supply (B+) connector
remove steering column switch trim screws -arrows- and remove upper steering column switch trim
- remove airbag unit (spiral spring) connector -arrow- from right side of lower steering column trim by gently depressing lug (in the center lower part of the connector) with a screwdriver and pulling connector out
separate airbag unit (spiral spring) connector -arrow-
- remove driver's airbag unit
- remove steering wheel, -> Repair Group 94
remove screws -arrows-
- remove lock plate -A-
- carefully remove spiral spring from rear of steering wheel
Note:
Do not twist the spiral spring when removed.
Installing
- install in reverse order of removal being careful not to rotate spiral spring during installation
SPIRAL SPRING, CHECKING
Notes:
^ Do not twist the spiral spring when removed.
^ Test spiral spring only when both ends are disconnected from the airbag system.
- set digital multimeter Fluke 83 (US 1119) to Ohm range
connect multimeter between two terminals of airbag unit connector
^ must be less than 1 Ohm (continuity)
If specified value is not obtained,
- replace spiral spring
