"Rattling" Catalyst
Dear Audi Owner:
We are writing to inform you that the catalytic converter installed on the driver's side of some 1993 and 1994 model front-wheel drive Audi 90 vehicles equipped with automatic transmission could begin to rattle at high mileage. Our records show that you are the owner of one of the vehicles which could be affected by this condition.
Audi has determined that the catalyst substrate packaged inside a metal container installed on the driver's side of some vehicle exhaust systems could come loose and begin to rattle. This condition was found to be the result of variances in the manufacture of the metal container.
If you have noticed "rattling" in your vehicle which could originate from the catalyst underneath your Audi, please visit your dealer and arrange for an inspection and, if necessary, replacement of the catalyst free of charge.
There is no need to visit your dealer now if you do not notice any rattle which could originate from the left side catalyst.
Once you notice the condition, please visit your dealer promptly. Audi's commitment to replace a "rattling" catalyst in accordance with this letter will be in effect as long as the vehicle remains operational and irrespective of the age of the vehicle or the number of miles it has been driven.
Please place this letter into the glove compartment of your Audi together with your warranty booklet. We want to make sure, if you sell your Audi, that the new owner is informed of this action.
Thank you for driving an Audi.
