ENGINE CONTROL MODULE VERSION AND CODING

Procedure
- When display appears as follows:

Rapid data transfer HELP
Select function XX

- Select function code 01 for ECM Version and Coding. Display will appear as follows:

Rapid data transfer Q
01 - Check Control Module Version

- Press Q button to enter input. The engine control module identification number is indicated via the display, for example: 4A0 906 266 A. Display will appear as follows:

4A0907551AA 2.21 R5 MOTR RHV HS D
Coding 4

- Display breakdown is as follows:
^ ECM identification: 4A0 907 551AA (example)
^ Engine displacement: 2.21 liter
^ Engine type: R = in-line; 5 = 5-cylinder
^ Fuel injection system: MOTR = Motronic Multiport Fuel Injection
^ Ignition type: RHV = resting high voltage distribution
^ Transmission type: HS = manual; AT = automatic
^ ECM software version: D or (factory use only)
^ Coding: 1 = European countries; 4 = US & Canada

Note: Only during idle speed do correct specifications regarding the engine control module number and related coding occur.
