Oxygen Sensor: Description and Operation

Oxygen Sensor 20V:

The Heated Oxygen Sensor is located in the exhaust outlet of the turbocharger. The signal from the heated oxygen sensor is equal to the oxygen content in the exhaust. When the engine is idling and during partial load, the air/fuel mixture is regulated to lambda (1Kg. fuel to 14Kg. air) to ensure optimal catalytic converter efficiency. The oxygen sensor system is adaptive and air/fuel mixture adjustments are not necessary.

If there is a failure in the oxygen sensor signal, oxygen sensor control and oxygen sensor adaptation is stopped. The Motronic control module will use the last learned input from the oxygen sensor as a fixed value. The evaporative emission control system is switched off also.
