Supersedes T.B. Group 13 Number 96-01 dated Jan 2, 1996

Condition

Engine oil seal leakage after seal replacement.

Service

Condition may be caused by:

^ Seal lip roll-over due to improper seal installation.

^ Using improper seal lubricant prior to seal installation.

The micro-lip design of the sealing surface has a "pump" function which moves oil back into the housing. When grease is used to lubricate the oil seal prior to installation, the "pump" design function of the sealing surface is defeated.

Whenever replacing any engine oil seal which requires lubrication prior to installation, always lubricate the seal with engine oil, DO NOT lubricate the seal with grease.
