Power Seat With Memory, Troubleshooting
NOTE:- Always refer to appropriate wiring diagram.
- Leave driver's door open when checking operation of the driver's seat memory function.
- If malfunctioning components are found when carrying out the following test steps, the wiring to these components must also be checked.
- If the battery is disconnected, programmed seat positions remain in memory
- Programmed seat positions can only be erased by the input of new seat positions.
- Actuators are mounted on adjustment motors.
- Check all actuators before replacing a malfunctioning actuator
- When checking the sensor unit for backrest adjustment, do not recline the backrest more than 35°.
Test conditions
- Battery OK
- Fuse 8 OK
- Circuit breaker -S44- for driver's seat, located in position B1 on auxiliary relay panel 1 OK
- Circuit breaker -S80- for passenger seat, located in position B2 on auxiliary relay panel 1 OK
Tools required
- Digital multimeter (Fluke 83 or equivalent)
- Connector test kit VW 1594
CAUTION:
- DO NOT damage, enlarge or bend connector terminals or cavities by forcing probes into them when performing electrical checks. Use connector test kit "WI 594 to make the necessary electrical connections.
- Some color coded plugs to power seat control unit are interchangeable. Tag plugs for proper identification.

NOTE:
- If malfunctioning components are identified in the following test steps, also check the wiring to these components using the wiring diagram. The procedures for removing and repairing passenger seat components are the same as for the driver's seat.
