Service and Testing Procedures

Servotronic Control Module - J236, removing/installing

Note
The Cruise Control, Control Module mounts to the same bracket as the Servotronic Control Module.

- remove glove compartment

- disconnect Servotronic Control Module connector





- remove bracket nuts -arrows- and remove bracket with control module

- remove securing screws and remove control module from bracket

- install in reverse order of removal

Servotronic Control Module - J236, checking power supply (B+)

- remove glove compartment, remove connector from Servotronic Control Module - J236

- switch ignition on

- set digital multimeter Fluke 83 to 20V range






- connect multimeter test leads between pins -2- and -7- of Servotronic Control Module connector

^ must be approx. 12V

If specified reading is not obtained,

- check for open circuit in wiring according to wiring diagram, repair as necessary

Wiring between Servotronic Control Module - J236 and Connector station 1, checking

- remove glove compartment and driver's side knee bar

- remove connector from Servotronic Control Module - J236





- remove orange connector (location 9) -arrow- from Connector station 1

- set digital multimeter Fluke 83 to Ohm measuring range

- connect multimeter test leads between pins -8- and -11- of Servotronic Control Module connector

^ must be infinity Ohms (no continuity)

If specified reading is not obtained,

- check for short circuit in wiring according to wiring diagram, repair as necessary

If specified reading is obtained,





- using connector test kit VW 1594, bridge pins -5- and -6- at position 9 (orange connector) of Connector station 1

^ must be 0 Ohms (continuity)

If specified reading is not obtained,

- check for open circuit in wiring according to wiring diagram, repair as necessary

Wiring between Connector station 1 and Servotronic Solenoid Valve -N119, checking

- remove driver's side knee bar

- remove orange connector (location 9) -arrow- from Connector station

- on S4 vehicles, remove hydraulic brake booster (servo), see Repair Group 47

- remove connector from Servotronic Solenoid Valve - N119

- set digital multi meter Fluke 83 to Ohm measuring range





- using connector test kit VW 1594, connect multimeter test leads between pins -1- and -2- of Servotronic Solenoid Valve - N119 connector

^ must be infinity Ohms (no continuity)

Note
For illustration purposes, test is shown with connector removed from vehicle.

If specified reading is not obtained,

- check for open/short circuit in wiring according to wiring diagram, repair as necessary

If specified reading is obtained,





- using connector test kit VW 1594, bridge pins -5- and -6- at position 9 (orange connector) of Connector station 1

^ must be 0 Ohms (continuity)

If specified reading is not obtained,

- check for open/short circuit in wiring according to wiring diagram, repair as necessary

Servotronic Solenoid Valve - N119, checking

- on S4 vehicles, remove hydraulic brake booster (servo)

- remove connector from Servotronic Solenoid Valve -N119

- set digital multi meter Fluke 83 to Ohm measuring range





- using connector test kit VW 1594, connect multimeter test leads between the two pins of Servotronic Solenoid Valve - N119

^ must be 6-12 Ohms

Note
For illustration purposes, test is shown with steering gear removed from vehicle.

If specified reading is not obtained,

- replace Servotronic Solenoid Valve - N119

Servotronic Solenoid Valve - N119 wiring, checking for short circuit to B+

- remove glove compartment

- remove connector from Servotronic Control Module - J236

- set digital multimeter Fluke 83 to Ohm measuring range

- connect multimeter test leads between pins -7- and -8- then between pins -7- and -11- of Servotronic Control Module connector

^ must be infinity Ohms (no continuity) in each case

If specified reading is not obtained,

- check for short circuit in wiring according to wiring diagram, repair as necessary

Servotronic Solenoid Valve - N119 wiring, checking for short circuit to Ground (GND)

- remove glove compartment

- remove connector from Servotronic Control Module - J236

- set digital multimeter Fluke 83 to Ohm measuring range

- connect multimeter test leads between pins -2- and -11- then between pins -2- and -8- of Servotronic Control Module connector.

^ must be infinity Ohms (no continuity) in each case

If specified reading is not obtained,

- check for short circuit in wiring according to wiring diagram, repair as necessary
