Pinion, Removing and Installing: Overview

- Refer to general repair instructions. Service and Repair
- Replace both tapered roller bearings of pinion together, using bearings from the same manufacturer if possible.






1. Final drive housing
- Clamp final drive in assembly stand: refer to "Procedures"
- If these parts are replaced, adjustments are required. Refer to List of Adjustments at Rear Final Drive, Ring and Pinion Adjusting.
2. Pinion
- Is matched to ring gear
- If these parts are replaced, adjustments are required. Refer to List of Adjustments at Rear Final Drive, Ring and Pinion Adjusting.
3. Inner race for tapered roller bearing
- Removing: refer to "Procedures"
- Inserting: refer to "Procedures"
- If these parts are replaced, adjustments are required. Refer to List of Adjustments at Rear Final Drive, Ring and Pinion Adjusting.
4. Outer race for large tapered roller bearing
- Removing: refer to "Procedures"
- Inserting: refer to "Procedures"
- If these parts are replaced, adjustments are required. Refer to List of Adjustments at Rear Final Drive, Ring and Pinion Adjusting.
5. Shim S3
- Note thickness

6. Spacer sleeve
- Always replace!
7. Outer race for small tapered roller bearing
- Removing: refer to "Procedures"
- Installing: refer to "Procedures"
- If these parts are replaced, adjustments are required. Refer to List of Adjustments at Rear Final Drive, Ring and Pinion Adjusting.
8. Inner race for small tapered roller bearing
- Pressing out pinion: refer to "Procedures"
- Installing: refer to "Procedures"
- If these parts are replaced, adjustments are required. Refer to List of Adjustments at Rear Final Drive, Ring and Pinion Adjusting.
9. Seal
10. Driveshaft flange with final drive cover
- Removing: refer to "Procedures"
11. Pinion nut
- Unscrewing: refer to "Procedures"
- Screwing on: refer to "Procedures"
- Measuring friction torque: refer to "Procedures"
- Securing: refer to "Procedures"
12. Screw
- 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
