Subframe: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Install engine support bridge tool No. 10-222A, or equivalent, onto fender ridge, then install transmission holder tool No. 3147, or equivalent.
2. Tighten spindles slightly.
3. Remove spindles from engine support bridge tool No. 10-222A, or equivalent, then install hook onto engine as show in Fig. 13.
4. Tighten spindles slightly, then put transmission holder 3147, or equivalent, into hole provided in housing and engage hook on support bridge.
5. Tighten spindles of support bridge slightly.
6. On all models, raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheels.
7. Remove sound insulation panel, then the clamping bolt for the ball joint pin.
8. Remove transmission mounts from subframe assembly, Fig. 14.
9. Support subframe assembly with transmission jack OTC 1785, or equivalent, and secure with a strap.
10. Remove subframe assembly mounting bolts, then lower subframe assembly from vehicle. Ensure ball joints separate from wheel bearing housings.


INSTALLATION
. Raise subframe assembly with transmission jack OTC 1785, or equivalent, then align ball joints with wheel bearing housing so that ball joint pins can be connected to housings. Do not damage ball joint boots.
. Install new clamping bolts and subframe mounting bolts. Do not tighten.
. Raise subframe and install transmission mounts. Locating tabs of base plates must engage recess on subframe assembly.
. Install new mounting bolts and washers for subframe assembly at front. Ribs on washers must face front of vehicle.
. Loosen strap from subframe assembly, then lower transmission jack tool No. OTC 1785, or equivalent.
. Tighten subframe assembly bolts, transmission mount bolts and ball joint clamping bolts to specifications.
. Install sound insulation panel, then the wheels.
. Lower vehicle, then remove engine support bridge tool No. 10-222A, or equivalent.
