Additional Malfunctions

ADDITIONAL MALFUNCTIONS, CHECKING

^ ABS Warning Light (K 47) lights up sporadically and goes out again by itself:

^ test vehicle voltage (electrical loads switched on)

Note
Supply voltage must be greater than 10.5 V.

^ test Rear Differential Lock Switch (F 100), Front Differential Lock Switch (F 101), control module for differential lock and related wiring on basis of wiring diagram (only on models with AWD)

^ ABS Warning Light (K 47) lights up intermittently and goes out again after ABS Switch (E 83) is operated once (models only up to 7/92):

^ test ABS Combination Relay (J 156), ABS Switch (E 83) and related wiring on basis of wiring diagram

^ ABS Warning Light (K 47) lights up intermittently and goes out again after ABS Switch (E 83) is operated twice (model only up to 7/92):

^ ABS Warning Light (K 47) lights up intermittently and goes out after restarting

^ ABS Return Flow Pump (v39) starts at low speed (up to 10 km/h, approx. 6 mph), and brake pedal activated (wheels do not lock)

^ test wheel speed sensor and sensor wiring in succession with test box VAG 1598, adaptor cable VAG 1598/3 and hand multimeter US 1119 for loose contacts on basis of wiring diagram

Note
^ set 2 k ohms range at hand multimeter US 1119 (specification 0.8k ohms up to 1.8 k ohms)

^ move wheel speed sensor cable during test (to check for loose contacts)

^ ABS Warning Light (K 47) shows steady light:

^ replace ABS Control Module (J 104)

Note
If vehicle has additional speed outlets (e.g. to Transmission Control Module TCM) (J 217) or t6 control module for Anti-Slip Control Module (J 231) (see wiring diagram), test voltage supply for terminal 33 at 35-pin connector before replacing ABS Control Module (J 104).
