Campaign - Fuel Injector Replacement: Overview
Code: KSSubject:
1993-95 Audi Vehicles Equipped With a V6 Engine Replace Fuel Injectors
March 1999
Dear Audi Dealer:
This is to inform you of the initiation of a voluntary safety recall involving 1993-95 model year Audi 90, Cabriolet and Audi 100/A6 vehicles equipped with a V6 engine. The recall involves the replacement of fuel injectors.
Problem Description
Audi has determined that an internal seal of the fuel injectors installed in affected vehicles could malfunction and cause fuel seepage in the engine compartment. If not serviced in a timely manner a spark plug wire spark could cause a fire in the engine compartment.
Vehicle Identification Number Range
The vehicles affected by this recall action are within the illustrated vehicle identification number ranges.
Please note that the listed VINs represent the lowest and highest serial numbers of affected vehicles. Use of the V-Crest campaign inquiry system will allow you to determine whether or not a particular vehicle, within the above VIN ranges, requires the corrective work.
Note:
Audi will not reimburse under this recall any duplicate recall repair work or a repair outside the VIN ranges.
Remedial Action
Replace fuel injectors.
Owner Notification Mailing
Audi will mail first class notification letters to all known owners of affected vehicles on or about March 26, 1999. A copy of the owner letter is enclosed in this circular.
Vehicle Allocation
By separate mail and prior to owner notification, we will furnish to you a computer list containing information for vehicles of owners who may reside within your area of responsibility.
Important Note:
The above-mentioned listing includes owner names and addresses obtained from state motor vehicle registrations. Under the law of some states, including regulations set forth by the California Department of Motor Vehicles, vehicle registration information may only be used for recall purposes. Use for other reasons may constitute violation of state law.
Limitation on Sale or Lease of Certain Vehicles
Section 154(d) of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1966 mandates that dealers correct, prior to delivery for sale or lease, any vehicle which fails to comply with an applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard or which contains a defect relating to motor vehicle safety. It is, therefore, imperative that any vehicle in your used car inventory and affected by this recall is corrected prior to sale.
