Sunroof / Moonroof Panel: Service and Repair

Sunroof headliner panel, removing and installing

Removing

- Open sliding roof approx. 10cm (3.9 in.) toward rear.




- Spread retaining clips on left and right and slide sliding roof headliner toward rear.

Note: Illustration shows retaining clips from inner side of sliding roof headliner.

- Close roof.




- Unscrew screws -1-, -2- and -3- completely from tilt mechanism on both sides.
Tightening torque: 4.0-5.0 Nm (35-47 in lb)

- Lift out roof panel upward.

- Remove sliding roof headliner.

Note: Headliner can also be removed without removing sliding roof panel - proceed as follows:




- Open sliding roof approx. 10 cm (3.9 in.).

- Spread retaining clips and slide headliner toward rear.




- Apply adhesive tape to retaining clips at left and right so that clips cannot engage in sliding roof panel with sliding roof tilted.

CAUTION! With sliding roof tilted, headliner retaining clips must not engage in sliding roof panel, as otherwise silding roof can no longer be closed without damaging mechanical parts.

- Close sliding roof, tilt and slide headliner forward.

- Press headliner over water channel and remove from sliding roof opening toward rear.


Installing

CAUTION! Before installing headliner, and with sliding roof panel installed, headliner retaining clips must be covered with adhesive tape.




- Tilt sliding roof.

- Guide headliner through sliding roof opening, slide all the way forward in guides and press over water channel at rear.

- Slide headliner toward rear.

- Remove adhesive tape.

- Close sliding roof.

- Slide sliding roof headliner forward until locking hooks engage in sliding roof panel.
