This bulletin supersedes all other information regarding this procedure for Audi 100 with V6-engine.

Toothed belt, removing and installing

Removing
- remove ribbed V-belt. see Repair Manual, Group 13
- remove ribbed V-belt tensioner.
- unclip ribbed V-belt guard on both sides.





- turn crankshaft to TDC position by hand.
^ notch -A- must align with notch -B-.
- check camshaft position.
^ large holes of locating plates on camshaft sprockets must point toward each other.

If NO

- rotate crankshaft one revolution.
- remove crankshaft position (CKP) sensor from left side of crankcase behind oil cooler (above oil pan).
^ TDC hole in crankshaft must be seen or felt behind hole for CKP.





- install crankshaft holder tool 3242 in hole previously occupied by CKP sensor and tighten slightly.
- remove vibration damper, see Repair Manual Group 13.
- remove lower toothed belt guard.

Caution!
Mark the direction of belt travel before removing, using a crayon or marker If re-installed in the opposite direction, the belt could be damaged.





- install camshaft holding tool 3243.





- loosen left and right camshaft sprocket bolts approx. 3 turns but do not remove bolts.
- remove camshaft holding tool 3243.

- loosen belt tensioner.
- loosen left and right camshaft sprockets using puller (example Kukko 20-10).
^ puller arms must be placed at the rear of the cam sprocket.
- loosen and remove toothed V-belt.

Installing
- mount toothed belt over both camshaft sprockets.
^ ensure that belt direction is properly oriented
- install camshaft holder 3243.
- position toothed V-belt on all sprockets
(over tension roller last).

Note:
The camshaft sprockets must be loose enough to allow rotation on the camshaft but not so loose as to tilt.





- adjust belt tensioner tightness with socket wrench so tensioner can still be moved slightly by hand.
- turn belt tensioner to the right using hex wrench and hold in position.
- tighten belt tensioner bolt
^ 45 N-m (33 ft.lb.)
- check belt tension between right camshaft gear and coolant pump.





- twist belt between camshaft gear and coolant pump by grasping between thumb and index finger.
^ must be able to turn approx. 90~
- tighten sprocket bolts.

If NO

- recheck tension by turning engine over one complete turn, re-adjust as necessary.
