Display Group 014
Display Group 014^ The display groups 011 through 019 apply to driveability troubleshooting (idle problems and/or loss of power) and special component malfunctions.
Display Group 014 Overview:
Notes on display fields 2, 3, and 4 of display group 014:
Knock regulation is active at an engine load greater than 40%. If the engine load value exceeds 40%, the current ignition timing retarding values are displayed. When the engine load value drops below 40%, the last ignition timing retarding value used is displayed continuously
When there is audible knocking without recognizable ignition timing retarding, the engine speed should be increased over 3500 RPM for 5 seconds to initiate the knock sensor malfunction recognition (diagnostic).
If the ignition timing retarding value of one cylinder clearly deviates from the other cylinders, the following malfunctions are possible:
^ Loose auxiliary assemblies
^ Corrosion on the harness connector
^ Engine damage (e.g. oil consumption with damaged pistons/rings).
If large ignition timing retarding values are displayed for an entire bank, the following malfunctions are possible:
^ Corrosion in harness connection see display groups 015 and/or 016
^ Improper knock sensor torque: torque to 15 ft lb. (20 Nm)
^ Open circuit in wiring see display group 015 and/or 016
^ Knock sensor faulty see display group 015 and/or 016
^ Loose auxiliary assemblies
If large ignition timing retarding values are displayed for all cylinders (banks land 2), fuel octane is too low (less than 91 RON).
