On-Board Diagnostics
ON BOARD DIAGNOSTICS OVERVIEWThe 01F/01K transmission operation is controlled by the Transmission Control Module (TCM).
TCM (J217) for the 01F/01K transmission has a permanent fault memory and self-diagnostic capabilities.
The TCM collects information from various sensors and other control modules such as the M.P.I. Engine Control Module (ECM) for engine management information and the ABS Control Module for information about road speed.
After evaluating this information, the TCM generates output signals to the actuators.
The TCM also generates output signals to the M.P.I. ECM (to retard ignition timing during upshifts and downshifts) and the A/C Control Head (to switch off the A/C compressor clutch under full throttle acceleration.)
If the TCM detects missing or implausible input signals, or the TCM fails, the transmission will go into one of two emergency running modes. The Emergency Running Mode level depends on the nature of the failure.
The TCM's self diagnostics can be accessed using the V.A.G 1551 Scan Tool or a generic scan tool via Rapid Data Transfer. Not all functions of the self diagnostics are availible using a generic scan tool. Data cannot be transferred via Blink Code Output because the "L" data wire has been eliminated.
The following functions can be accessed by the VAG 1551 scan tool:
01 - Check control unit versions
02 - Check fault memory
03 - Output check diagnosis
05 - Erase fault memory
06 - End output
08 - Read measuring value block
The following components are checked with the Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM):
1113 - Solenoid Valve 1 - N88
1121 - Solenoid Valve 2 - N89
1121 - Solenoid Valve 3 - N90
1131 - Solenoid Valve 4 - N91
1323 - Kick-Down Switch - F8
3434 - Cruise Control Power Supply Relay
4132 - Solenoid Valve Power Supply Relay
