CONDITION
Condensation accumulates in air distribution housing and drips into footwell area due to poor positioning of evaporator sealing gasket in housing.

SERVICE
Evaporator housing gasket, removing:
Vehicles with manual climate control
from VIN:
80 NA 185 500 to 8C PA 050 246
Vehicles with automatic climate control
up to VIN: 8C PA 051 338
- Adjust temperature control to COLD setting.
- Adjust air distribution to DEFROST position.
- Remove center console, glove box and driver's side knee bar, see Repair Manual, Repair Groups 68 and 90.
- Separate air ducts by removing clamps -D-.
- Remove nut at flange -C-.
- Pull air distribution housing forward slightly to free stud at flange -C- and side vent connections, then press air distribution housing down and keep it down.
- With your hand, reach into evaporator housing through opening -A-.
- Remove gasket -8- (if necessary use a stiff wire bent to the shape of a hook).
Note
The gasket is a light gray foam material approximately 8 1/2 inches long and 3/4 inch square.
- Install in reverse order of removal without gasket -B-.
- Check for proper connections between air distribution housing and side vents.
- Check for proper operation of heater/air conditioner.
