ABS Troubleshooting, Cautions and Notes

General troubleshooting

^ The ABS system is a safety system. Do not attempt to troubleshoot or repair the ABS unless you are trained and experienced.

^ Do not drive with the ABS Control Module disconnected.

^ Do not drive with the ABS tester connected.

^ Switch ignition oft before separating or connecting harness connectors of ABS system components.

^ Do not loosen bolts on ABS Hydraulic Unit.

^ When handling brake fluid, heed all Warnings and Cautions, see Repair Manual, Repair Group 47.

^ Malfunctions of the ABS are indicated when the ABS Warning Light lights up. Some malfunctions can only be recognized when driving faster than 12 km/h (7.5 mph).

Electrical troubleshooting

^ The troubleshooting according to this program is basically complete and should be followed in the sequence described here.

^ If one malfunction is found and repaired, go through the complete troubleshooting procedure again.

^ When repairing malfunctions, only faulty components are identified. Installation is described in the respective repair groups of the Repair Manual.

^ Determine faulty wiring according to the applicable wiring diagram and repair as necessary.

^ For installation locations of the components

Repairs

^ Before replacing components, check that the electrical contacts are OK.

^ Do not repair faulty ABS components. Replace components if necessary.
