Display Group 007

VAG 1551 Display, Measuring Value Block Display Group 007:

Key to VAG 1551 Display, Measuring Value Block 7

Display Group 007/008, Display Field 1:

Diagnostic chart, display field 1 - 4

NOTES on display field 1:
^ The oxygen sensor control should basically only be evaluated after successful learning (see learning requirement display), both in "Basic Setting" function 04 and in "Read Measuring Value Block" function 08.
^ The oxygen sensor control displays momentary control status. After successful learning (see learning requirement display), the values vary around 0.0 ± 6.0%. If the learning process (display field 4) is ended and no value around 0.0 ± 6.0% has been reached, observe display group 010, display fields 3 and/or 4 and check control behavior of the two oxygen sensors. The display value must at times drop below the value 0.3 volts. Otherwise, check oxygen sensor heater and oxygen sensor.
^ The oxygen sensor control stop evaluation done by the diagnosis also proceeds only after successful learning: see learning requirement display, control stop maximum +32%; control stop minimum -87.5%.
^ With values exceeding ± 20% in "Basic Setting" function 04, intake air leaks and engine damage (oil burning due to faulty piston) are possible.

NOTES on display field 2:
^ The current learning range (load status) is displayed in display field 2 (learning range display). Only closed throttle position and partial load learning ranges are displayed since at wide open throttle position no learning takes place.
^ In order to achieve the appropriate learning range (load status) for the closed throttle position learning range, let the vehicle run in closed throttle position (650 - 900 RPM). Partial load 1,2,3 learning range, take a test drive using second person, while increasing engine speed to 1500 - 3000 RPM and create load by lightly operating the brake.

4 Digit Learning Range Display:

Interpreting The 4-digit O2S Learning Range Display in display field 3

- Value "0" = Engine speed (RPM) and/or RPM and load NOT reached for this learning range.
- Value "1" = Engine speed (RPM) and/or RPM and load reached for this learning range

NOTES on display field 3:
^ The oxygen sensor learning requirement diagnosis shows which oxygen sensor learning value was checked in the learning process.
^ Upon successful diagnosis, the corresponding value is set to "1", independent of whether the diagnosis was recognized as OK or not.
^ If the value of "oxygen sensor learning requirement diagnosis" is set to "1" in display field 3, but the corresponding value of the "oxygen sensor learning requirement display" (display field 4) is not set to "1", the diagnosis was carried out but not recognized as OK.
^ The oxygen sensor learning requirement diagnosis is reset to "0" at each start with engine coolant temperature less than 40°C (104°F).

8 Digit Learning Range Display:

Interpreting The 8-digit O2S Learning Requirement Display in display field 4

NOTES on display field 4:
Diagnostic chart, display field 4 shows in what learning range (display field 2) learning requirement is needed.
^ Requirements for learning:
- No malfunctions stored in DTC memory.
- Engine speed at closed throttle position between 650-900 RPM or 1500-3000 RPM.
- Engine coolant temperature between 80°-110°C (176°-230°F).
^ Learning is prohibited if:
- Idle speed RPM is uneven (hunting), during accelerations and at Wide Open Throttle (WOT) position.
- Malfunctions are stored in DTC memory (not with sporadic malfunctions).
- A 9% difference is present between the richest and leanest oxygen sensor learning values of one display group. If a 9% difference is reached, the continued learning of the affected learning ranges is stopped. The learning requirement display of these learning ranges can then not be 1 see display groups 005 and 006.
^ Learning function:
- Learning starts 20 seconds after initiating "Basic Setting" function 04 or latest 4 minutes after each start with the engine coolant temperature less than 40°C (104°F).
- The EVAP canister purge regulator valve is closed during learning.
^ The following list shows when the requirement for new learning (learning requirement) is forced:
- After initiation of "Basic Setting" function 04 using the VAG 1551 scan tool and/or each time DTC memory is erased, all learning requirement displays are set to 0 in order to force new learning of all oxygen sensor learning values after shop visits.
- After each start, engine coolant temperature less than 40°C (104°F) learning requirement is forced in all learning ranges.
- If there is a large learning value deviation (from stored learned value to the newly learned value) in one learning range during the learning process, all learning requirement displays are set to 0 again.
With successful learning, the learning requirement values of the respective learning ranges (display field 2) are set to 1.
