Windows, Rattle With Windows in Raised Position and Convertible Top lowered

Model(s): Cabriolet m.y.1994 ->
Condition

Front and rear windows rattle when all conditions listed below are met:

^ Windows in fully raised position.

^ Convertible top in lowered position.

^ Doors must be flush with side panel.

^ Front and rear windows correctly adjusted as described in the Repair Manual W42 552 193 111 (printed 11/93).


Service

Fig. 1 - Window Seal:




Check gap -X- between door window -A- and rear window seal -B-.

Note:
The convertible top must be in lowered position when checking gap.

^ Gap must be 1-2 mm (checked at upper edge of windows), if necessary optimize gap by:

- Adjusting rear window only (see Repair Manual W42 552 193 111).

^ If necessary after window gap is optimized:

- Close convertible top and adjust top seal(s) if necessary to assure rear window(s) fit correctly in seal(s).

- Road test vehicle with convertible top lowered, to assure rattle has been eliminated and then with convertible top in the closed position, assure proper fit of all windows and seals.
