System Diagram

Note: Replace all self-locking nuts.

1 - Locking plate
2 - M10 80 Nm (59 ft lb)

3 - Axle shaft
do not repair
different lengths for left and right

4 - Self-locking nut 65 Nm (48 ft lb)
5 - Washer

6 - Cover
arrow points in direction of wheel

7 - Self-locking nut 30 Nm (22 ft lb)

8 - Suspension Strut

9 - Self-locking nut 60 Nm (44 ft lb)

10 - Bolt
always replace
bolt-head points toward rear axle

11 - Bolt and washer
always replace
tighten to 200 Nm (148 ft lb) and then turn additional 90° 1/4 turn)
loosen tighten only with vehicle standing on wheels

12 - Gasket
always replace
pull off protective film and stick to CV joint

WARNING: Do not remove or install axle bolt washer with vehicle on a hoist. Lower vehicle to the ground before removing installing.

CAUTION: Do not move vehicle without driveshaft or outer constant velocity joint installed otherwise the wheel bearing will be damaged. When disassembling suspension strut. install tool 20701 before removing (or use VW 340). Do not heat up wheel bearing~housing or wheel bearing will be damaged.
