Switches - Function/Removing/ Installing
A/C REFRIGERANT SYSTEM (R-134A) SWITCHES, FUNCTION/REMOVING/INSTALLINGA/C refrigerant high pressure switch (F 118)
FUNCTION
Switches A/C clutch OFF if system pressure is too high.
^ switch identification: red housing with bonded wire connections
^ switch located at bottom left of condenser
^ switch opens (compressor OFF): 28.2-31.0 bar (409-450 psi)
^ switch closes (compressor ON): 10.3-17.2 bar (149-250 psi) Removing/installing
- remove sound dampening pan from under engine
- remove electrical connector and unscrew high pressure switch (F 118)
^ refrigerant system remains closed
(Schrader valve under switch)
- install new 0-ring seal -A- (7.6 mm x 1.8 mm), lubricate with refrigerant (PAG) oil and ensure proper seating in groove
- torque switch to 5 Nm (44 in.lb)
- install sound dampening pan
A/C REFRIGERANT HIGH PRESSURE SWITCH (F 23)
FUNCTION
Switches coolant fan (V 7) to 2nd speed operation.
^ switch identification: green housing with bonded wire connections
^ switch located on right side of engine compartment below intake air duct
^ switch closes (2nd speed ON): 14.2-17.4 bar (206-252 psi)
^ switch opens (2nd speed OFF): 11.7-15.0 bar (170-218 psi)
^ opening and closing switching points must be at least 2 bar (29 psi) difference
REMOVING/INSTALLING
- remove right intake air duct
- remove electrical connector and unscrew high pressure switch (F 23)
^ refrigerant system remains closed (Schrader valve under switch)
- install new 0-ring seal -A- (7.6 mm x 1.8 mm), lubricate with refrigerant (PAG) oil and ensure proper seating in groove
- torque switch to 5 Nm (44 in.lb)
- install right intake air duct
A/C REFRIGERANT LOW PRESSURE SWITCH (F 73)
Function
Switches A/C clutch (N 25) OFF if system suction pressure is too low (low refrigerant charge). This switch protects the compressor if the refrigerant system is empty.
^ switch located in right plenum
^ switch opens (compressor OFF): 1.45-1.6 bar (21-23 psi)
^ switch closes (compressor ON): 2.9-3.4 bar (42-49 psi)
REMOVING/INSTALLING
- remove plenum tray
- remove electrical connector and unscrew low pressure switch (F 73)
^ refrigerant system remains closed (Schrader valve under switch)
- install new 0-ring seal -A- (8.9 mm x 1.8 mm), lubricate with refrigerant (PAG) oil and ensure proper seating in groove
- torque switch to 5 Nm (44 in.lb)
- install plenum tray
