Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Adjustments
Multi-function switch adjustingNote:
Remove adjusting pin first from new multi-function switch
- Position selector lever in the Park position.
Selector Linkage:
- Using a screwdriver, remove socket of selector lever cable on transmission.
- Position gear lever (ball head) on transmission to Neutral as follows:
^ Push ball head forward until ball head stops in the Park position.
^ Push ball head to the Neutral position.
Selector Linkage:
- Using a 2.75-3.14 inch Allen wrench, a 5mm socket (1/4 inch drive), universal joint, 51 and 152 mm (2.0 and 6.0 in.) extensions loosen bolts on multi-function switch until the switch can be rotated easily in the elongated slots.
Selector Switch:
- Using a 1.6 inch Allen wrench, loosen bolt on multi-function switch until switch can rotate freely.
Selector Switch:
- Insert adjusting pin through adjusting bores on multi-function switch.
Note:
The adjusting pin is provided with every new multi-function switch. Otherwise, a 4 mm dia. drill bit may be used. The adjusting pin is fitted tightly, the drill bit is not so tightly fitted. If necessary, align both adjusting holes by turning the multi-function switch in the elongated holes and insert pin or drill bit.
- Align adjusting holes and insert pins in holes.
- Torque multi-function switch retaining bolts to 7 ft. lbs.
- Remove adjusting pin from multi-function switch then press ball head forward to Park position.
Selector Linkage:
- Position selector lever in Park, then check to ensure socket and ball head are aligned.
- Attach selector lever cable to ball head.
- If head and socket are not aligned, adjust selector lever cable as follows:
Selector Linkage:
- Loosen bolt 1 on cable support bracket until support bracket can be moved without exerting too much force.
- Push socket in forward and rearward direction until head and socket are aligned in exact center.
- Retighten bolts on support bracket.
Selector Linkage:
- Attach selector lever cable to ball head.
^ Socket must lock in.
- Recall and cancel fault memory. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code Memory- Display/Erase.
- Switch on ignition.
- Press and hold brake pedal until end of check.
- Slowly move selector lever from P via R, N, D, 3, 2 to 1. Check whether selector lever position display in dash panel insert corresponds to selector lever position.
- Repeat adjustment or replace multi-function switch if panel display does not correspond with selector lever position.
