Speedometer Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) signal, checking

- Remove instrument cluster. Service and Repair
- Disconnect blue 26-pin harness connector from instrument cluster.
- Connect VAG1598/4 adapter to blue 26-pin connector.
- Connect VAG1598/4 adapter to VAG1598 test box.
Do not connect adapter to instrument cluster; leave the instrument cluster disconnected.
- Set digital multimeter (Fluke 83 or equivalent) to resistance (Ohm) measuring range.
- Connect multimeter between test box sockets 20 and 21.
- Release parking brake, shift transmission into Neutral, and move vehicle forward or backward slightly.
Specification: alternating between 0 Ohms (continuity) and infinite Ohms (no continuity)

If specification is not met:
- Check for open circuit in wiring according to wiring diagram, and repair as necessary.

If resistance is OK and the speedometer is not working:
- Check power supply voltage from speedometer according to wiring diagram.
- Replace speedometer if necessary.
