Left Side

1. Disconnect axle shaft from flange and push upwards, then unbolt left differential support, and lower until flange is accessible.
2. Support differential with transmission jack VW 1383 or equivalent.
3. Install two bolts into flange and hold flange with a bar, then remove flange bolt.
4. Remove flange, then pry out seal. Do not lose adjustment shim between flange shaft and differential gear.
5. Screw in threaded rod of seal installation tool 3066 or equivalent, then install new oil seal onto seal installation tool 3066/1 or equivalent.
6. Draw in new oil seal and tighten hex nut up to stop, ensure lever for differential lock does not interfere with seal during installation.
7. Install flange and shim lubricated with grease, then the axle shaft and differential support.
8. Check differential oil level and fill as necessary.
9. Torque flange to differential bolts to 18 ft. lbs., axle shaft to flange bolts to 33 ft. lbs. and suspension to subframe bolts to 33 ft. lbs.
