Pre-Test Requirements

Required vehicle-specific technical information sources:

^ Applicable wiring diagram.

^ Repair Manual, Groups 01, 44, 45, 47.

Testers required:

^ Scan Tool VAG 1551.

^ ABS tester VAG 1710 with adapter cable VAG 1710/1.

^ Digital multimeter Fluke 83 (US 1119).

^ Test box VAG 1598 and adapter harness VAG 1598/3.

^ Test lead set VW 1594.

Test requirements:

^ All tires at correct inflation pressure.

^ Correct tire size mounted, same tire size and tread pattern on all wheels.

^ Battery voltage (B+) greater than 10.5 V:

- indicator lamp for Generator K2 goes out after engine starts

- Generator V-belt OK and tensioned

^ Hydraulic connections of hydraulic unit and wheel brake cylinders not leaking.

^ Conventional vehicle brake system OK (brake pads, function, fluid level).

^ Ground connection of return flow pump OK (check for tight fit and corrosion).

^ Wheel bearings and wheel bearing play OK

^ Brake lights and Brake Light Switch OK.

^ Function of manually engaged differential lock OK - all wheel drive only. Rear Differential Lock Indicator Light K46 lights up after differential lock is engaged and goes out completely after differential lock is turned off.
