Rear Bumper: Service and Repair

Rear bumper assembly, removing and installing





1 - Bolt (2x)
23 Nm (17 ft lb)
2 - Cover
Removing from bumper ~ Fig. 3
3 - Bumper
To remove, remove bolts -1- and pull bumper with cover toward rear
4 - Trim
Removing:
- Remove bumper -3-
- Remove, bolts -6- from holding brackets -7- on both sides
- Remove nuts -5- and bolts -9- from both sides
- Remove nuts -11- and bolt -10-
- Pull trim -4- toward back at both ends (second technician required)
5 - Nut
2.5 Nm (22 in lb)
6 - Bolt and washer assembly
1.5 Nm (13 in lb)
7 - Holding bracket

8 - Bracket
To remove, remove trim -4- and bolt -9-
9 - Bolt
2.5 Nm (22 in lb)
10 - Bolt
2.5 Nm (22 in lb)
11 - Nut
2.5 Nm (22 in lb)
12 - Bracket
Remove to remove trim -4-

- Remove bolt -1- and remove bumper -2-toward rear.
- Remove bolts 3- (3x) and remove impact absorber -4- toward rear.
Tightening torque: 23 Nm (17 ft lb)

- Remove bumper.
- Remove trim.
- Remove screws -1- (3x) and holding bracket.
- Note clips -3-.

Fig. 3 - Removing And Installing Bumper Cover:




- Remove bumper.
- Press cover -1- off bumper toward back using plastic wedges -2-.
- Starting on one side, lift bumper slightly from trim and remove clips from bumper one by one.

Notes:
When installing, protect the bumper cover's painted surface from damage.
The bumper must be pressed very firmly into the cover so that it can also engage in the bumper.
