Air Injection: Description and Operation

Secondary Air Injection (AIR) System, Overview:

^ Air is injected behind the exhaust valves during cold start, engine coolant temperature 15 to 65°C (5 to 149°F) for a certain time (temperature-dependant) by the secondary air injection system.
^ Control is via the Engine Control Module (ECM) byway of the Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump relay -J299-, the Secondary Air Injection (AIR) solenoid valve -N112-, and both combination valves.
^ Functional testing of the secondary air injection system is carried out via On-Board Diagnostics using the VAG 1551 scan tool.
^ Functional testing consists of a flow test and a leak test.
