With Generic Scan Tool

DISPLAYING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE MEMORY USING ADDRESS WORD 33
Address Word 33 modes are accessable with the VAG 1551 Scan Tool or the VAG 1552 Scan Tool and with any Generic OBD II Scan Tool. Diagnosis with a Generic Scan Tool is only possible using the diagnostic modes of Address Word 33. Additional diagnostic modes of Address Word 33 are covered in: Diagnosis With Scan Tool, Address Word 33. The VAG 1551 and 1552 Scan Tools can also access Address Word 01 functions for expanded diagnostic capabilities.

TEST REQUIREMENTS

Electronic Box With Circuit Breakers:





- Fuse 17 and engine electronics circuit breakers 1, 2, 3 and 4 (holder colors black, brown, red and yellow) in the electronic box in passenger floor OK.
- Fuel pump relay OK.

PROCEDURE
- Ensure Test Requirements are met.

Data Link Connector Cover:





- Remove Data Link Connector (DLC) cover located in front tray of center console.

Connecting VAG 1551 Scan Tool:





- Connect Scan Tool (ST) to 16-pin DLC.

NOTE: Use VAG 1551/3 adaptor with the VAG Scan Tool.

^ Scan Tool should have a display indicating proper connection. Display may vary depending on scan tool manufacture. If display is not shown, check voltage supply (B+) to the DLC.

- Input 01 to select Rapid Data Transfer mode 1.
- Input 33 to select Address Word 33.
- Input 03 to select Mode 3, Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory.
- DTC's will be displayed in sequence on the scan tool.

NOTE: If the printer on the VAG 1551 is turned ON the DTC's will be displayed and printed out one after the other.

- Repair any malfunctions as necessary using the DTC Charts. Testing and Inspection
